Pediatric and Adult Strabismus Service
Duke Eye Center offers the latest diagnostic tests and treatments of
children's eye diseases, as well as eye muscle disorders in adults.
Children who can benefit from Duke’s care include those who need
glasses and those with:
· Crossed eyes (esotropia)
· Out-turned eyes (exotropia)
· Droopy lids (ptosis)
· Blocked tear ducts
· Ocular tumors
· Cataracts
· Congenital glaucoma
· Optic nerve abnormalities
· Genetic diseases
· Retinal disorders
· Eye tumors
The strabismus service treats eye muscle problems in adults that
result in double vision or deviated eyes.
· Thyroid eye diseases
· Myasthenia gravis
· Sixth nerve, fourth nerve, and thrid nerve palsies
· Trauma
· Old childhood eye muscle problems
Additional consultation and treatments offered include:
· Congenital cataracts and intraocular lenses
· Childhood glaucoma
· Retinoblastoma
· Retinopathy of prematurity
· Genetic eye diseases
· Congenital retinal disorders
· Pediatric low vision evaluations
Pediatric neuro-ophthalmology includes treatment of:
· Pseudotumor cerebri
· Nystagmus (jerking eyes, wiggly eyes)
