Background

Tammy Yanovitch, MD, specializes in the medical and surgical management of pediatric eye disorders and adult/childhood strabismus (eye misalignment). She also has training in the treatment of pediatric cataracts, pediatric glaucoma, and retinopathy of prematurity. Yanovitch has developed a program in collaboration with Duke pediatricians and clinical geneticist, which provides comprehensive care and evaluation of patients with Down syndrome with accompanying eye issues.  She has written several scientific articles on various pediatric ophthalmology topics and has lecture son retinopathy of prematurity.  Yanovitch is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Research Interests

Tammy Yanovitch, MD, is performing research on underlying genetic predispositions to the development of retinopathy of prematurity, a potentially blinding disorder of the retinal vasculature that is seen in premature infants. She is also evaluating the usefulness of sweep visual evoked potentials (electrical activity generated in the brain by visual stimuli) in diagnosing amblyopia (layz eye) in children with Down syndrome.
