Background

Scott Cousins, MD, is a retina-trained ophthalmologist specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and research of macular diseases. His clinical practice focuses on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases. He directs the Duke Center for Macular Diseases at the Duke Eye Center.

Research Interests

Cousins' research includes both NIH-funded research and industry-funded research in various areas of dry and wet macular degeneration. In particular, he is attempting to develop treatments for dry macular degeneration. He is developing blood tests and new imaging technologies for the identification of patients who are at high risk for developing complications of macular degeneration. 

He is additionally involved in many clinical trials and innovative therapies for the treatment of macular diseases, especially age-related macular degeneration.
